Bordeaux & South West France

The combination of plentiful sunshine, a huge diversity of 'Terroirs' & a wide range of grape varieties offers wonderful contrasts in style and flavour, with ripeness being a common factor. The Viognier is all about white flowers & the smell of spring & the Toques et Clochers is like a mini-Meursault at half the price.

Italy & the Iberian Peninsular

Italian whites tend to be fresh & lightly aromatic. This is certainly the case with the Pinot Grigio & Gavi.

The Verdicchio has benefited from the more Southerly sun & carries a little more weight & texture. With the Iberian offerings citrus abounds, from the two coastal wines, Albarino and Vinho Verde, to the gently barrel aged white Rioja that offers pears drops and lime. These wines are perfect with all manner of seafood.

New World

These wines represent superb examples of their individual grape varieties & styles, but more importantly they’re all distinctive, fun & taste great! The ‘noble’white grapes of Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Riesling are well represented. Marlborough is shown at its best with a classic Sauvignon, very much in the vein of the great Cloudy Bay rather than the mass produced pretenders. The ‘Crux’,a barrel fermented Chardonnay from South Africa offers sublime quality and drinkability and from Central Otago a Riesling that brings a little ‘Hollywood’ to the list from Sam Neil.
